It turned out that you have to install another instance of the driver, as the wired interface is in essence a completely different printer from the wireless one. The tech support person was very helpful, and inside of 20 minutes it was up and running. After a few minutes of trying, I couldn't figure out how to get my Windows 10 computer to recognize it, so I called Canon support. Since I already had MX492 driver and software installed, I tried to find somewhere in the user interface to add the USB instance of the printer. Now I spend lots of time on the road, and I needed a printer in my hotel room, so I bought a second MX492, which I need to use with a USB cable. It has proved versatile, as I have had to use it with a variety of Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and W. The automatic document feeder works very well, and is one of the reasons I chose this model. I use it for medium duty printing and scanning, and it has been reliable, and prints & scans with high quality. For unrelated reasons I had to change WIFI routers, and used WPS to set it up again.
